Thank you for the reply. scary to know that clothing companies don't generally get funding! Perhaps as u say, Internet marketing is the solution to push my product forward. I am going to start working on my website soon for online shopping. My brother had introduced me to Joomla and I have looked through drupal now. Thank u very much for the tips.

ahem, being an entrepreneur, I have just started on facebook and I must say it has helped me get in touch with my target audience faster than I thought :) Targeted marketing through facebook ad allowed me to choose not only the age bracket I was interested in but also common interest. I am new to this whole social networking bit but found facebook very user friendly :) In just two weeks, I had around 450 people signing in as fans and I am sure I could not have found a faster way to get in touch with so many people who appreciated my product in such a short span of time. I plan to write that on my blog next week :)

I even tried Linkedln but still trying to figure out how that is going to help me?! So far not doing too gud there :(

Farhana:
I think that you are running into a couple of different problems. First, clothing is a specialized niche. Many investors that I know are looking at high tech or life sciences deals that have a significant upside assuming a successful exit. I have seen a few clothing companies looking for funding and I am not sure if any were successful in their raise.
The second problem is that because of the financial issues of last year, investors have raised the bar on what is required to get their money and seem to be offering less investment for larger percentage of the company.
Lastly, it seems you are not in the US. Most investors like their investments to be withn a two hour drive of the companies they invest in.
On a positive note, you say you have a niche that is continuing to purchase and yours is one area they are willing to spend money with. A niche consumer segment, with purchase power and an interest in a specific brand is a powerful opportunity and one that is easily exploited via Internet marketing with a social network community site as the portal. What's more positive is that there are open source (think free) tools that will provide the community as well as a shopping cart for purchases. It no longer takes $50K to $100k+ to build these sites. Look at sites like drupal.org or joomla.org for ideas.
If you already have a site and community but still need some investment to get going, look at strategic partners who will benefit along with you as you succeed and see how they might help.
I think that the difference between good financial times and bad financial times is the in good times lots of companies that should be funded get funded and in bad times companies will still get funded. There will be fewer of these but they will be of a higher quality.

so what do u say about the fashion industry ...is it a gud time to start:)coz I have just started out (gulp!) and am catering to a niche crowd.

While most fashion houses tend to concentrate on liberal styles - I have decided to concentrate on conservative chic clothing - what is called modesty styles :)

Since I am in the Middle East, I see a gap that exists in this market for women who are ready to pay but still don't get clothes that understand their cultural sensitivity....what we see here is that a customer ends up with a lot of layering of clothes to cover up (even in hot summers!)

I have done my research and realized there is quiet a segment of women who don't have a voice....and despite the recession are buying from me....then why is it that retailers and investors think otherwise and come up with excuses like recession :(

I completely concur with your article about Karl Strauss. My son Kyle has been with them as Manager of Training and Development for a little more than a year. Whenever he calls us or us him, he literally rants about what a sheer pleasure it is to work for this company. The people there are ALWAYS upbeat and look forward to getting up and coming to work every day. He's the happiest we've ever seen and we're very proud of him. It's a rare treat to able to do what you love and to love where you work.
